My Son Was Changed By the Voting Process

It was neat to take Justin with me to vote.
He stood next to me and intently read each section as I explained each circle I filled in.

The something happened as we left that building, he began to talk, and talk a lot, he began to ask more questions,
he became a political activist.

Per his request we headed to the campaign headquarters of his candidate, got a sign, and then headed to my place of work where he stood out by the road holding it.

When I walked out to get him to go home he had the biggest smile on his face. This is what he said to me, "That was fun mom. I got honks and waves, you know the steering wheel type waves. I got thumbs up, smiles and head nods. I enjoyed that."

Interesting what that one opportunity did for him. It wasn't his first time is a voting booth; actually it was his 3rd, but he is older and wiser. He got it.

He got how our system works, how our voices get heard.

It was a heart warming time.

Now let's see what the next 4+ years have in store for us!? Honestly, I'm looking forward to it!

My children enjoyed the voting process as well. They were great! Brendan got to put the ballot in the machine. I must chuckle however, in NJ we vote in booths...so much more fun! Levers, and curtains....my boys may never know the mechanical voting booths. As far as looking forward to the next four years.....ummm....we'll see! Love you!

even out here in bush alaska we have the option electronic or the stripped booth! i was there to set up before sunrise, and there to count the few paper ballots placed after polls closed at 8:00 and had already heard the results from the east coast....
