NH Trip Summary
Finally pictures of my NH trip.
As usual it's best to go through the weekend in pictures, here goes.
First of all I travelled to NH to my oldest niece's wedding. My mother and her mother went along with me, or better yet, I went along with them. The morning began by with what I thought was a 4:30am pick-up- they showed up at 4:00am!
We drove to the airport, breezed through security and sat in the terminal- alone for what seemed like forever! We laughed our butts off at ourselves for various reasons as all people do at such an early hour.
Here's the proof: just us in the airport, something like 2 hours early, for a before dawn flight! Love my family.
After getting our rental car we drove to the L.L. Bean outlet store and did a little tax free shopping, before getting lunch at Panera. Here's my Nana and I waiting for my mom to get all her phone calls and texting done, it was like being with a teenager, my mom that is. I even took her phone away so she could safely drive.
On our way "home" I snapped a picture of this rock painting. It's been there for as long as I can remember and I heard a rumor that it had been removed or talk of it being removed had created quite an uprising.
Funny what we want our kids to see about where we grew up.
We arrived in town and went to my brother's house. It is his oldest that got married. She wasn't there but we found out my nephew, her younger brother, was in the wedding and hadn't even gone over to get fitted for his tux! And I wonder where I get my last-minuteness!
I was surprised at how calm everyone was.
So my mom and I grabbed him and headed out to get him dressed for the big day! Here he is, my nephew:
After picking him up we actually headed to my mom's bed and breakfast and got her and Nana checked in. The view of Mt Sunapee was beautiful, here's a picture of my mom and Eric. Thisis the mountain we looked out from our old house and the moutian Steve skiied the most.
We stopped by the church and met the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Here's my mom with my niece, the bride to be. Again everyone very calm and relaxed and a great bunch of kids.
After the tux fitting I found a ride to Steve's cousin Jeremy's birthday party. What a nice treat to have that whole side of the family together while I was there. The most exciting part was meeting my youngest nephew. Here I am with him and my sister-in-law.
The next morning meant wedding day! It was my duty to get the bride to the church, get her started on her hair and finish up a few reception details; after that I went back to the house took my nephew to the church and then went back again to get myself ready.
You can imagine I was rushed when I looked at the clock and realized it was 15 minutes til the wedding and I still had wet hair! I also realized I had forgotten my blush and lipstick at home in Florida- yuck! Some days it pays to be a make-up wearer, I'm sure if I was one I would not have left home without those two items.
When I got up that morning I found this on the car window... frost!
My brother and his oldest.
I cried more than any wedding, something about knowing a person from birth and seeing them get married.
Before the wedding party was announced my mom and I got his shot. I'm so excited to have more family!
In true New Hampshire fashion a pig roast was planned for after the reception. My nephew and I made an appearance but really wanted to get some village pizza and visit some more of my family. The two of us "ride hopped" and eventually made it to my other brother's farm where I got to see my chicken and pick up a car to use.
See we have matching hair/feathers.
If you're from my hometown you know how good Village pizza is, if you're not- I'm sorry. Here's a shot of Eric in the pizza joint, owned by Greeks who went onand on to me about how terrible it was I didn't bring my boys to see them. I think they have some young Greek girls they want to marry off-- hehe -- my big fat Greek family!
Next we went to Steve's sister's house. My niece and nephew.
My little Lou, lou jump roping!
Mary, Steve's sis and Jim, a classmate of mine.
Sunday morning I woke and drove to my brother's house for breakfast. On the backside of the mountain we use to live on I saw these turkeys. I call them our old turkeys because we would often have a bunch of them in our fields and I'm sure these would have been them.
On my way I also saw this:
"First to produce Green Energy in New Hampshire"
A friend of my dad's is leasing a large part of his mountain to a solar power company to produce power. Here's a close up of the already assembled windmills.
The distance shot of the mountains the windmills sit on. By the way, that's the back of my friends parents house, small town living at it's best.
At my brother's house, AKA the farm.
Putting a chastity belt on the ram. Interesting process sheep mating is, and big money!
Below is my nephew who is 6 months older than Vaughan. One thing I noticed the second I got off the plane was Boston gear. Celtics, Bo Sox, Pats. Yankees, the people fromt eh feographic place, are nuts about their teams- it's what drives our friend Justin nuts (he's a Colorado fan).
My best friend since 7th grade met me for breakfast and we headed out on our annual drive around. Whether it's here in FL or there in NH we always take time to drive around just the two of us and visit.
She took me to Village again where I bought a large pizza to take home to my clan.
Back to my brother's for a last goodbye. Here's my Nana with her great-grandchildren, the brother and sister of the bride. They've gotten so big, now age 17 and 18, with big sister age 20!
My niece wanted in on the drive around so Jen and I lugged her along.
With her we always seem to get some good photo shots. here we were at the covered bridge.
Before leaving we went throughthe bridge and burned out on it, I have video. My niece asked if this is what you do for fun when you get old.
Yes it is!
Back to the farm, my bro's new chicken coop.
and the geese...
So that's about it. After saying goodbye to the farm we made our way to the airport and I finally arrived home at 12:30am. Justin was up to greet me and he was the first to eat his Village pizza.
This trip was the hardest I had leaving. Seeing and being with my family is always a treasure. Seeing them grown up was hard, I had spent so much time with them when they were little and although we're still very close it's hard being so far away.
I'm glad to be home but part of me will always be in New England. It's part of being a Yankee; we can live anywhere and love it, but there is a pride that goes with being from New England, I can't explain it, you just have to be from THERE to get it.
So now this northern girl is home in the south, drinking tea, cookin' up grits and framing my colored leaves from New Hampshire.
and one more thing, I didn't wear my seatbelt much...

Sneaking in Some Time to Blog
Lately my blogs have been few and it may continue this way for awhile- although I hope not. My time's been stretched and I guard my downtime preciously and blogging is not part of that downtime.
Somedays I think public school is more on my time than having my baby home with me. My days have been filled with home school and work. Steve is currently working on a project he really, really wants to finish quickly so he's been gone from about 3am to about 10pm. Yes you read that correct he wakes at 3:00am and then proceeds through 3 jobs before laying his head down around 10:00pm. Crazy I know but it's where we're at right now. I'm so thankful for home schooling and self employment because it means the boys get to see him; I, on the other hand have been forgetting what he looks like lately. The bad part is it puts all the responsibility of home and kids on me!
The good part is this will end.
Soon.
I pray.
Until then I've had to sneak into work and type this while my children sit in Sunday School a few doors down. I hope to post pics of my trip later today because I know when tomorrow hits I'll be off and running, and driving, and planning and taxiing, and well I think you get the picture.
So kid updates: Justin received another stripe in karate and should have his next belt before Thanksgiving. He also has been doing a lot of bike riding with his group of friends. Justin is also doing better each week at schooling himself, which is a big priority for me with middle school, way to go J! Vaughan has shaved about 5 minutes off his 5k time and is not only receiving all A's and B's in high school- he's the top student in his geometry class! Keep up the good work Vaughan!
Me? Well, I'm me. A wreck one day and a joy the next. I haven't had much time to do anything but school, work and parent, I'm even forgetting what my friends look or sound like. Although I did sneak away 2 weekends in a row so it's not that bad.
Speaking of getting away- one of the great things about my leaving is that my boys have got the house thing down.
I use to come home to a mess. Literally if it could be messed up it used to get messed up while I was gone. Back in the "day" I'd come home and always wonder what happened, I was sure little trolls came along and just started pulling out draws and toys and messing up dishes. Now I come home to a neat, small stack of dishes, a picked up living room and my favorite: laundry in the dryer. Lord thank you something I said in one of my rants stuck with them!
My boys rock the hiz-ouse!
Well in a minute Sunday School will be over and I'll need to move onto church with the fam and so I need to go.

I Really Wanted to Post Another Video...
...but Amanda would have disowned me.
OK, OK. It's been awhile- I know.
I've been busy.
Last week we started our middle and high school mid-week activities.
This year it's called 33OC- that 33 weeks on Cool.
What is cool? What's not? That's what we're asking our students, and we're helping them see what God's Word says about it all.
This year, well as of right now, I am co-leading, the 10th grade girls group. Secretly I'm hoping to split the group but we need to wait and see what the numbers look like.
Since I've been all out since last week I haven't even gotten a chance to do all the attendance so I don't even know how many students came on opening night. Looking at the empty chairs my guess is we had between 125-150 students!
Rock on!
Things went smooth, things went well. I love my job on nights like those.
Early Friday morning my mother and grandmother picked me up and we flew to NH for my niece's wedding on Saturday. This was the hardest time I had leaving of any of my trips back "home". I'm not sure why? I spent most of the day Saturday and Saturday night with my 18 year old nephew, dragging him to my sister-in-laws and all over the place. I miss him.
And my niece.
And my other nephew.
And my brothers.
And my sister-in-laws, and cousins and friends Jenny.
But life is here home is here in good ol FL of A!
We arrived back at my house Monday morning at 12:30am and I spent the better part of yesterday recovering.
Today I had a local speaking engagement and now tonight a cross country meet, thankfully it's on the beach here locally.
Oh yeah and we home schooled.
Can't forget that, I think it's important- at least people tell me it is!
So that's where I've been and it's why I'm not posting any pics right now- I just don't have the spare time. Perhaps tonight.
I have great pics!
Cool new things in my home town area and I wish I could have brought home the cool air, the crisp leaves and the smell of wood burning stoves.
~Michelle
PS so sorry I didn't post the video because it would have been Walk Like An Egyptian, hey take your beef up with Toughy

Another Video to Start Off Your Week
OK, so you know I'm crazy busy with kids and school and husband and work when I post 1 week apart and both posts are videos.
We start back to youth group on Wednesday (150 kids will pass through my sights in a 2 hour period of time) and I'm out of town this weekend so when things settle I'll be back.
Another blast from the past for you.
I'll be take the pink electric guitar and the mis-matched earrings!
You can keep the large, black hat and high-waisted jeans.
The greatest thing about this video is the style. On Wednesday, I will see many a girl who will look like she stepped out of this video- skinny jeans and all.
How about you- are you an 80's fan?

To Start Your Week Off With A Smile
This is what Vaughan did Sunday afternoon.
My cousins were in from Alaska and my parents came over for a family night last night. We ate dinner, then went for a walk on the beach and to Dairy Queen for some yummy ice cream. We had a blast!
While you're at it, go check out Slice of Life, he wrote a good post on saving plastic and making choices to be kinder to our enviroment. If you aren't being intentional in this area- START! NOW!

Ditching Home School
One of my favorite things about homeschooling is the freedom to drop everything and go.
I'm great at that, ditching what I should be doing for something else. I've gotten much better at sticking to my responsibilities over the years but I am a sucker for a resort pool and Downtown Disney.
So when our first week of home schooling came to an end and I got an invite to a friends condo- I jumped on it! Justin and I took Friday off of our first week of school and headed to Orlando for hang with my good friend for a few hours.
We hung out in the pool, played some killer water volleyball and ate a homemade, yummy spaghetti lunch!
While waiting for lunch I hung out on the balcony with my friends 2 year old. He rocks. Really. I have so much fun with this kid. This time around he tried to throw everything he got his hands on to the ground 3 stories below.
He's quick and got 2 things fired off before I realized what the heck was going on. First was some piece of paper and second was his father's insoles- oops. I finally caught on and when he grabbed my can of coke to throw I blocked him! A wet win for me!
Anyway it was a well needed break from my daily duties.
Here are the pics of what ditching home school looks like for us.
I think I had just told him he couldn't throw anything.
Is he not the cutest?
After the pool we headed to Downtown Disney. Here I am with Eduardo the bowling pin- don't ask.
Eduardo at the Lego Store. The displays around the store are so cool.
This picture is from a whole different day- a day when we did ditch the normal way home for an alternate route- look what we saw, it's a Florida dog deer.
Beautiful.
So how about you- when you ditch your usual plan what do you like to do?

My Daughter? In My New Study?
My new Bible study started tonight!
I love the first night of a new study. All my friends are gathered in one place, we're all ready to hear something new from God and dig into His Word.
We're usually cold because I've turned the a/c down to low and we're usually all hopped up on caffeine, well at least I am. In these times when women are busy I find joy in seeing them connect, truly connect each week.
Tonight was extra special because my daughter was there.
No I didn't birth her, although I could have at the young age of 15 and it brought joy to my heart to look across the room and see her sitting there.
She had no hood over her head, she didn't even have her hoody on- impressive!
I'm looking forward to this journey with her.
We're a lot a like and nothing at all like one another.
We can get depressed at the thought of waking up and find joy in the silliness of being honest.
She wears lots of black.
I, lots of brown.
She wears hoods,
I hats.
She can actually apply make-up,
I'm wishing she was my daughter to have taught me how.
She has bad habits.
I have bad habits.
She does not have a job,
I do,
have 3 of them.
She pouts a bunch,
I don't pout much at all, anymore.
She loves the Lord yet questions this whole Christianity thing.
I know it's real. I've lived it. I've experienced it. I just know.
One day, she'll get it too! She's my girl.
I'll never figure her out.
She'll always think she's figured me out.
So... my new bible study started tonight and as we take off on this journey of Believing God I'm ready. Ready to listen, to learn, to live, to believe, to receive and to watch those around me open their eyes to their promised land- here on planet earth.
I get to do it all with my oldest baby, the child I didn't birth, who has only lived with me for 36 hours and yet- tugs at my heart.
I'm believing God.

Open House
I just got back from my first open house!
I was so excited all day. I told everyone at work and at the bank that we had open house tonight.
Vaughan lead Steve , Justin and I around the high school like he was in some sort of race or something. We went up and down, around and back down.
History, PE, Geometry, English, Biology...
Vaughan's rules were simple:
I was not allowed to take my camera
and
extended family was not allowed. Originally I thought this post would be named "My Big Fat Greek Family Goes to School"- really Yiayia, Papou and more were wanting to go.
It was neat to meet Vaughan's teachers and see his school.
I'm excited for him and had a neat surprise when in his Intro to Engineering class I saw two other home schooling families!
We ran into so many people we knew- it was like old home day.
I am so excited for him and these new experiences he's getting.
My baby's growing up.

Creative Child and Excel
Here's Justin's daily assignments in excel. All he needs to do is check his assignments, color them in when complete and then I go back and check it with the strikethrough.
He must love school or the face would be sad.
Creativity rocks!
